Defence of the realm will remain the prime responsibilities of the department but it includes defence of all citizens.
The department will be responsible for the coordination of:
The army is responsible for the security of land and land borders of the United Kingdom.
The navy is responsible for the water border and offshore commitments.
The air force is responsible for the security of the United Kingdom airspace.
Intelligence must not be gathered against any citizen without an approved court order. Intelligence gathered against any citizen by an overseas agency may not be used under any circumstances.
Directed by customs to specific incidents, the coastguard will continue to patrol coastal waters with the same jurisdiction as the rest of the defence departments.
The defence of citizens at sea will be provided by the existing institution with the backing of the government.
